DANCE TECHNOLOGY
DANCE TECHNOLOGY
IDEA AND AIM OF THE COMPANY:
Dance has been a part of the human culture since the very earliest communities and civilizations, with recorded evidence of dancing being found dating back to 30,000 years ago.
Dance Technology ( The name of our institute) helps dancers and engineers dive together into doing what they love. This way the dancers have a bigger impact on their live audience as well as their virtual ones.
Our aim is to build an institute where all types of dance forms not just only Indian but also forms of different countries to be used to make different types of fusion dances both physically and virtually.
Engineers are known to create wonders with technology and dancers are known to create wonders with the technology in their body. A collaboration of these mega wonders is sure to shock the audiences world-wide.
Dance have contributed a lot to the world. It has given dancers another meaning , another way to express themselves and with technology we will magnify their emotions.
MARKET DEMAND:
In this modern era, social media has become a basic platform for all the beginners as well as struggling dancers/content creators. There are many dancers who have mega potential in them but have no exposure because a few of them lack confidence whereas a majority of them lack IMPACT.
According to Bureau Of Labour Statistics, there has been an increase of employment in the field of dancing by 6 percent only from the last 4 years. Hence a customer is sure to be wowed by this idea as it is new and much needed for all the dancers.
Thus it is more than needed for technology to play it’s role like it does in any other field and help dancers become professionals.
Dancers want people who can understand what they’re trying to express through their dance and technology can ease it. From waltz in the 18th century to open choreography in the 20th century, dance has been spreading immensely and is creating a hub-hub in among the teenagers.
Thus, the market demand will keep increasing itself as it is desperately needed In our country.
RELEVANT PRODUCTS IN THE MARKET:
Many other dance institutions might’ve thought about this idea as well and few may have implemented it too so the BIG question is HOW IS MY IDEA ANY DIFFERENT?
In India, there is not much appreciation for dancers, we are here to help dancers gain the respect they actually deserve. The appreciation, they deserve. And that is going to happen by making use of the technology that is, tools of the choreographer used for the creation of dances such as abstraction, canon, motif, contrast, accumulation, repetition, reversal, retrograde, inversion, fragmentation, and embellishment.
As there are many dance forms worldwide here are a few of them which our institution will expertise on:
1. Ballet : Ballet dance developed during the Italian Renaissance, before evolving in France and Russia into a concert dance meant for public performance. This is in the form of a ballet, in which the dance is choreographed with classical music.
2. Ballroom : Ballroom dance is a type of partner dance originating at the end of the sixteenth century in France. Commonly used as shorthand for any partner dance, ballroom has today evolved into two main subgenres — standard/smooth and Latin/rhythm.
3. Contemporary : Developed during the mid-twentieth century, contemporary dance is now one of the most popular and technical forms of dance studied and performed professionally, especially in the US and Europe. Drawing on classical, modern and jazz dance styles, contemporary dance has evolved to incorporate many characteristics of a broader range of dance forms.
4. Hip Hop : Hip-hop dancing refers to a range of street dances that developed in relation to hip hop music and culture. Hip-hop dancing dates back to the early 1970s in New York and California, evolving out of Funk and the development of break beat.
5. Jazz : Jazz dancing has its roots in seventeenth-century African traditions, brought to the Americas via the Atlantic slave trade as slaves continued dancing traditions in Brazil, the US and elsewhere on the continents.
6. Tap Dance : Tap dancing is a type of percussive dance characterised by the “tap” of shoes hitting the floor as the person dances. Tap dancers often wear metal “taps” on the heel and toe of a shoe to accentuate the sound
7. Folk Dance : Folk dancing is celebrated worldwide with people of different cultures and religions using various forms of folk dance to portray emotions, stories, historical events or even aspects of daily life.
8. Irish Dance : Originating in Ireland, this form of traditional dance has been popular for hundreds of years amongst Irish people and other countries worldwide. Popularized by shows such as Riverdance, Irish dancing is famously known for its fabulous display of footwork and dance formations.
9. Modern Dance : . While most forms of dance are structured and feature set steps, the purpose of modern dance is to rely on the dancer’s interpretation of the music and feeling to guide movements.
10. Swing Dance : Swing is a variation of jazz dance which developed between the 1920s to the 1940s as a response to the growing popularity of swing jazz in America.
Since there are lots of dance forms to cover and explore we would need a basic amount of investment we would head-start with the most famous dances of all time : hip-hop, modern dance, ballet and jazz.
· Digitized Dance Notation
Digital choreography programs like Dance Designer allow choreographers to choose and connect pre-recorded stock movements. Or, you can create your own unique 3D steps with The Motion Bank, a data collection company that uses Microsoft Kinect and motion tracking technology to record dancers’ movements and generate an archived “movement library.”
But, these programs often only show how a step is done, not how to do it well. (One benefit of old school Labanotation is its symbols for movement quality.)
· A New Kind of Camera
GoPros and drones can film hard-to-reach angles — and can create virtual reality experiences using 360-degree video technology. But though companies are hoping that access to high-quality dance footage will make audiences more excited about seeing live performances, it could have the opposite effect, making them content to stay home and watch from their computers.
· E-traces
· Footwear That Captures Your Every Step.
What if a ballerina’s slippers could help capture her very movements? Motion-tracking “E-Traces” are slippers that feature a small electronic device attached to the bottom of a dancer’s shoe. The chip records a foot’s pressure and movement, allowing the dancer to effectively “draw” their movements in a pattern of data strokes that are then sent to a mobile app program for editing. Dancers can then use the app to interpret their movement, compare rehearsals and performances and make corrections. The only downside: The E-trace is visible against a pink shoe, which makes it obvious during performances.
· The Ultimate Fitbit
Another wearable helps prevent injury: Kitman Labs has devised the Athlete Optimization System, which tracks stats during and after workouts. It collects data on acceleration and deceleration, physiological factors (stress, mood, sleep), biomechanical response, muscle fatigue and methods of recovery so that dancers can monitor their regimen.
TARGET CUSTOMER:
Our main audience would be the youths who are seeking to begin their career in dance. But then again a person of any age is welcomed.
Our target audience would be those who have had minimal or no chances to go to any competitions/ workshops but are filled with power packed potential. Mostly rural areas as they don’t get many opportunities/exposure.
Mainly Indians as they lack exposure and proper training as compared to other countries.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:
A customer would be expected to know some basic steps, foundation of the dance style he/she is interested in.
He/she would also have to learn and know how to embrace technology into their dances as for them to create a bigger impact.
ESTIMATED BUDGET:
The prices of software’s would range between 20,000 to 40,000 for a group of 15 people. ( Software’s include LED lights, background visualizer , fitbits ,etc.).
Thus up to 80,000/- per year for a group of 30 people.
PRODUCT PRICING:
To enhance our students in their respective styles the fee would approximately range between 10,000 to 15,000 for 3 months as per their choice of dance form.
Additional costs that may include would be for the rent, speakers, accessories related to each dance form that is for example for someone who choose to learn ballet , pointed shoes are required. In the same way, for other dance forms.
MARKETING PLAN:
We will hype our page all over social media because it is always the excitement that attracts a customer. Thus, our institute will leave no chance to promote ourselves and our work. We will make sure we are all over leading social media platforms that is, INSTAGRAM and FACEBOOK. Most of the beginners or struggling dancers or even famous dancers basically dancers from all over India showcase themselves on the internet. But even the famous one have no access to technology to make their dance look even more stunning and impactful. Thus we would be personally messaging the famous dancers who seek to such help.
YOUTUBE would be our demonstration source where people will be able to see to themselves our work. We will make videos of us teaching, using technology, using speakers, all different forms that have been mentioned and so on. We will create the zeal in our customers first and the word will spread from dancer to dancer.
RISK ANALYSIS:
Internet works both ways. Good and bad. We will have to make sure there is no rumour about us and if there is, we will clear it out as soon as possible. Gathering an audience is kind of a big deal hence we need a good network alliance to compete against other institutions.
Finding 3 to 4 good dancers to teach for each dance form is another cause of concern.
If we agree upon taking up virtual classes, we will have to have a strong staff that looks into their problems.
Last but not the least, a techno team that would help dancers with their background and their choice of effects.
MILESTONE AND TIMELINE:
Time estimated for proper planning: 3 months(includes collecting data and staff)
Implementing: 4 months
Testing: 2 months
Launching: 1 month
Thus, overall time estimation would be 10 months.
We hope to reach out to Atleast 100,000 dancers in a year after launching.
